
Company Guidelines
Company Auditions
Ballet Etudes will hold company auditions for the following season.
If you are unable to attend the audition, please contact the Artistic Director prior to the audition. Additional auditions may be held at the request of the Artistic Director.
SENIOR COMPANY MEMBERS
Age: Up through 19 years
Level: Passed Grade 6 or met the requirements of Grade 6. Currently working at a Grade 7 level or above
Pointe: Enrolled in Pointe 3 or higher
Experience: Has completed a one year Apprentice Membership in good standing attending required technique classes and rehearsals with a positive attitude.
CLASS REQUIREMENTS
Saturday Company class**
Three additional ballet technique classes per week at HAD* (Ballet classes taken at a lower level can count as required ballet technique classes.)
One pointe technique class per week at HAD
Note: Variations and Pas de deux are not considered ballet or pointe technique classes.
PRODUCTION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Participation in Nutcracker, all performances (Note: The February and May Library productions are optional but highly encouraged)
Additional Ballet Etudes performance opportunities are required
Will attend and/or volunteer at all Ballet Etudes fund-raisers and/or functions
Treat artistic directors, teachers, choreographers and fellow company members in a respectful manner
Be a positive role model to younger dancers

All roles are cast based on the needs of each individual production at the discretion of the artistic director.
Cost: Pays full company fee
APPRENTICE COMPANY MEMBERS
First year Company members will be offered a one-year Apprentice Company Membership.
Previous Apprentice and Senior Company Members not meeting technique class and/or rehearsal requirements will be offered an Apprentice Company Membership the following term. (terms are September – June)
Age: Up through 19 years

AFFILIATE COMPANY MEMBER
Age: Up through 19 years
Level: Has met the requirements of Grade 6. Currently working at a Grade 7 level or above. No exam required
Pointe: Not required
CLASS REQUIREMENTS

One other dance class per week at HAD from any discipline: tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, modern

*Senior and Apprentice Company Members who are A.P.A. Students: One of your required Ballet Technique Classes may be taken at A.P.A. An attendance record must be signed by your A.P.A. technique class instructor showing weekly attendance, and turned in to the HAD front desk on a monthly basis.
Saturday Company Class** remains a requirement and your pointe class and two remaining required ballet technique classes are to be taken at HAD.
*Ballet Students taking classes at studios other than Huntington Academy of Dance must have written permission from their studio artistic director and may take their required classes at their home studio, however the Saturday 11:00 am Huntington Academy of Dance “Company Class” is required for all Company Members.
**Saturday Company Class: Refers to the HAD 11:00 am Saturday, Ballet Technique class, for levels 8-10 that is a required class for all Company Members. (A.P.A. students my NOT substitute an A.P.A. class for this class.) Please note this class is not limited to Company Members . Past Company Members are always welcome, as are advanced level ballet students looking to take class. Lower level HAD dancers may be invited to take the Sat. 11:00 am Company Class as well.
BALLET ETUDES ALUMNI
Ballet Etudes alumni members, regardless of age, are eligible to participate in Ballet Etudes productions when they:
Contact the Artistic Director personally to express interest in participating prior to the auditions for that production.
Are committed to rehearsals and to the production.
Act as a positive role model and mentor the youth in the production
Alumni roles are cast based on the needs of each individual production at the discretion of the artistic director. Alumni roles include, but are not limited to cameo roles and character roles.
ALL COMPANY MEMBERS RECEIVE
• Waived performing fees for Ballet Etudes productions
• Head shot in Nutcracker Program
• Discount on HAD Tuition
• Other performing opportunities
• Special Casting Consideration: If two dancers of equal ability, one a Company Member* and one not, are being considered for a particular role, the Ballet Etudes Company Member* will be cast over the non-Company Member.
*Company Member being a Senior Company Member, Apprentice Company Member or an Affiliate Company Member.
